Senior Nursing Director Sophie Edwin, PhD, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, PCCN, has more than two decades of progressive, dynamic nursing experience at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She started her career as an international nurse, specializing in cardiology and heart failure. She grew from a clinical nurse to an assistant nursing director, and from there, she transitioned to nurse education while pursuing her master’s degree at George Masion University. During her tenure as an educator, she designed educational programs complying with the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) standards of practice and was involved in the accreditation of MedStar Washington’s Nurse Residency Program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In 2021, Edwin received the Nurses’ Choice Award for Exceptional Nurse Leader. Edwin recently obtained her PhD in nursing from the University of Maryland, where she studied distress in nurses and the impact on retention.
