Senior Nursing Director Rachel Watkins, MBA, BSN, RN, PCCN, began her nursing career in 2008 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in the Emergency Department, where she piloted a program that cross-trained emergency nurses for working in the Level 1 Trauma Center. From there, she moved to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and worked as a forensic nurse examiner, collecting forensic medical evidence and serving as an expert witness in court. Watkins moved into nursing leadership in 2015, and just three years later, won the Nurses’ Choice Exceptional Nurse Leader Award. She also received Washingtonian Magazine’s “Excellence in Nursing” award in 2021. Watkins holds a BSN from Villanova University and an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She is also an Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity, based at George Washington University Milken Institute of Public Health.
