Senior Nursing Director Tonka Williams, MHA, MSN, RN, CMSRN, joined the leadership team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in 2024 after serving as the director of nursing for the medicine division at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center in Richmond, Va. Williams is a graduate of VCU's Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute with more than 10 years of nursing leadership experience and has managed teams through redesign of professional practice and care delivery models, CLABSI quality improvement projects, and strategic certification efforts. In 2018, Williams was named the Virginia March of Dimes' Nurse of the Year for Nursing Administration. Williams is currently pursuing a DNP degree from James Madison University, where she received her MSN. She also holds an MHA from Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. An active member of several professional nursing organizations, Williams currently serves on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Certification Corporation Board.
