Senior Nursing Director Yelena V. Tuerk, DNP, MBA, MS, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, pursued her passion for nursing following a career as a chemical engineer. She began her nursing career at the University of Maryland Medical Center as a Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit nurse. With extensive clinical and leadership experience in a variety of specialties—inpatient and outpatient—Tuerk held a series of progressive positions in nursing administration at the University of Maryland Medical System and LifeBridge Health. As a skilled leader in hospital operations, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and expense and budget management, she leads with a focus on advancing nursing practice and mentorship and is passionate about employee engagement and patient experience. Tuerk completed her DNP from the University of Alabama, earned an MBA from the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business, and holds a Master of Science degree in Health Services Leadership and Management from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is a member of several professional nursing organizations, holds a Nurse Executive, Advanced Certification (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
