Pediatric intensive care unit transport service
In collaboration with MedStar Transport Service, we offer ground and air transport from any medical facility in the mid-Atlantic region. Experienced medical flight nurses perform transports with remote supervision from pediatric intensivists. Pre-transport consultation by a pediatric intensivist is available.
Pediatric intensive care unit
The pediatric intensive care unit at Medstar Health is a multidisciplinary 14-bed unit that provides care for critically ill patients who are age 22 or younger.
The unit is supported by the full spectrum of medical and surgical services available at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. We provide the highest level of care to critically ill medical and surgical patients, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration, and nitric oxide inhalation. A team of experienced pediatric intensivists supervises the care of all patients. Our services also include care for patients undergoing pediatric liver and bowel transplant, as well as pediatric epilepsy surgery.
Pediatric procedural sedation service
The pediatric procedural sedation service at MedStar Health provides sedation for any medical procedure or test that is painful or anxiety-producing. The service includes elective procedures for both inpatients and outpatients. Parents may stay with their children until they are fully sedated and may return to the procedure room before the child wakes.
Pediatric intensivists consultation
Pediatric intensivists are available for advice or referrals around the clock. We strive for a rapid response to calls and a brief turnaround time for transports if referral is needed. The pediatric intensivist will contact all referring physicians to provide updates on progress of their patients.
