Why train here

Fellows are exposed to a wide range of cases, patient demographics, and comorbidities, blending both minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) and urogynecology (UroGyn) experience.

Fellows train at five hospital locations in the Washington, D.C., area, including MedStar Washington Hospital Center, which does the highest volume of MIGS and UroGyn surgery on the east coast.

Trainees work with the most advanced surgical technology available, including robotic surgery, and many novel and experimental modalities at the center of faculty research.

The program offers superb networking opportunities, given faculty standing in the local and national community. Current faculty serve on the FMIGS, AALG, and Foundation of AAGL Boards.

Fellows learn complex MIGS cases and actively participate in cutting-edge research, with two months of protected research time each year.

Curriculum

At the completion of the two-year fellowship, graduates will have mastered a multitude of surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, uterine anomalies, abnormal uterine bleeding, and chronic pelvic pain.

Fellows will feel confident in hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, robotic surgery, and vaginal surgery.

Year One composes seven months of MIGS, two months of research, two months of urogynecology, and one month of GYN oncology.

Year Two composes seven months of MIGS, two months of research, one month of urogynecology, one month of colorectal surgery, and one month of urology. The senior fellow has a leadership role and runs his or her own weekly fibroid clinic.

Fellows have access to twice-monthly simulation labs with pelvic trainers and will participate in workshops as both instructor and student.

Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to participate in IPPCR biostats and the Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research Program, through Georgetown University School of Medicine and Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS).
