Pathology Residency Program

Our program is a four-year categorical program with a broad depth of educational opportunities within the MedStar Health system and at our affiliate sites.

Residents complete both Anatomic Pathology (AP) and Clinical Pathology (CP) rotations each year of training, and experience diverse and comprehensive case materials.

Anatomic services include general surgical pathology, cytopathology, renal and transplant pathology, and the post mortem examination. Clinical services include transfusion medicine, microbiology, hematopathology, molecular diagnostics, and general clinical chemistry. Patient care values include reliability, professionalism, and respect.

Academic Excellence

We strive to train pathologists who are competent in all aspects of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The trained pathologist from MedStar Georgetown should capably perform the duties of his or her specialty in any clinical or academic setting to the best of their ability with professionalism and integrity.

In addition, graduates will apply fundamental managerial principles in the operation of a laboratory and use their background in evidence-based medicine and research techniques to make decisions regarding new data and testing procedures for better patient care.
