Ananthakumar Nuthalapati, MD, who specializes in internal medicine, was appointed Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at MedStar Harbor Hospital in 2022. He has been a medical staff member at the hospital since 2009.
In his previous role, Dr. Nuthalapati led the Hospital Medicine Program, which integrates service lines between the hospital and MedStar Medical Group (MMG). His responsibilities included managing patient capacity to eliminate discharge barriers, an initiative that was critical to managing hospital census and throughput during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, in collaboration with nursing leadership, he successfully implemented numerous projects to improve patient satisfaction scores at MedStar Harbor Hospital.
Dr. Nuthalapati joined MedStar Health as an academic hospitalist from University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, where he was the chief resident.
Dr. Nuthalapati is board certified in internal medicine. He received his medical degree from Guntur Medical School in India. He completed his internship and residency at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business.
