Paul A. Sack, MD received his medical degree from the University of Maryland and has performed both his residency and fellowship training there. He has conducted clinical research in the genetics of obesity. In addition, he has a strong interest in thyroid disease and osteoporosis. Pamela Rose Schroeder, MD
Program Director
Pamela Rose Schroeder, MD received her medical and graduate degrees from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her internal medicine residency training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and her endocrinology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She joined the Division of Endocrinology at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in 2006. She is board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.
Dr. Schroeder is Program Director, Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Training Program; Co-Director, Thyroid Clinic MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. She is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist. She is also certified in performing thyroid ultrasounds and fine needle aspiration biopsies of thyroid nodules. In addition, she is licensed to perform radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism and thyroid nodules. Dr. Schroeder is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Issam E. Cheikh, MD
Director, Division of Endocrinology
Issam E. Cheikh, MD trained in endocrinology at The University of Maryland. He supervises medical care in one of Baltimore's busiest diabetes clinics and has directed the hospital's annual Update in Diabetes symposium since 1976. He received the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching in 2000 and in 2008. Faculty appointment: University of Maryland (Clinical Associate Professor).
Isabel Marcano Bonilla, MD
Isabel Marcano Bonilla, MD is a board-certified endocrinologist at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. She specializes in thyroid cancer and thyroid disorders, diabetes, and other metabolic conditions. She is also a bone health specialist for the treatment of osteoporosis. Dr. Marcano completed her fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center and her residency at Temple University Hospital. She earned her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine
Malek Cheikh, MD
Malek Cheikh, MD, is an endocrinologist at both MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and thyroid disorders, and has a special interest in caring for patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases. He is the medical lead for the Bone Health and Fracture Prevention Program to treat osteoporosis. Dr. Cheikh is also medical director of the Good Health Center, which has provided health and wellness programs at MedStar Good Samaritan for more than 30 years. He has been named a Baltimore magazine Top Doctor since 2019. In addition to English, Dr. Cheikh speaks Arabic.
Adline Ghazi, MD
Adline Ghazi, MD, is board certified in geriatrics and endocrinology. She completed her internal medicine residency at the State University of New York and advanced fellowship training at Duke University and George Washington University. She specializes in osteoporosis, other calcium and bone-related abnormalities, thyroid disorders as well as adrenal and pituitary glands disorders. She is the medical director of diabetes and endocrinology at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
Rani Suresh Kulkarni, MD
Rani Kulkarni, MD, is an endocrinologist at both MedStar Harbor Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. She is also the medical director of diabetes and endocrinology at MedStar Harbor Hospital. Dr. Kulkarni is board certified and fellowship-trained in endocrinology. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, thyroid conditions, and a variety of endocrine disorders. Dr. Kulkarni focuses on preventive treatments that lead to fewer complications during care.
Marisha Newton, MD
Marisha Newton, MD is a board-certified endocrinologist in the Good Health Center at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and thyroid disorders and has a special interest in caring for patients with parathyroid and calcium disorders. She is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Society of Endocrinologists. She has published research and articles about osteoporosis and osteopenia; thyroid disorders; and contraceptive methods.
Mansur E. Shomali, MD
Mansur E. Shomali, MD completed his endocrinology fellowship and practiced at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, before coming to MedStar Union Memorial in 2002. Dr. Shomali is the charter member of Community Hospital-based fellowship program directors in Maryland. His clinical and research interests include pituitary disorders, the medical management of obesity, and novel therapies for diabetes.
