Letter from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in The MedStar Health—Georgetown University Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center, host of the majority of clinical rotations for the fellowship, is a 926-bed teaching hospital, proud to be part of the MedStar Health System. It is the largest private, not-for-profit hospital in the nation's capital. It consistently ranks among the country’s top hospitals, as recognized by U.S. News & World Report.
Our two-year fellowship is unique in three major ways.
- Our program has a close relationship with the urogynecology department, emphasizing a balanced experience in female pelvic reconstructive medicine as well as minimally invasive GYN surgery. Fellows have exposure to a wide variety of gynecologic pathology, gaining experience in hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, vaginal, and robotic surgery.
- The fellows function as junior attendings, working directly with a high volume of complex surgical cases with a balanced amount of supervision and autonomy. Fellows assume progressively independent clinical responsibilities under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons, urogynecologists, urologists, colon and rectal surgeons, and GYN oncologists.
- The program values the feedback and requests of trainees, which over time has led to the development of a didactic and simulation-focused curriculum that is structured and driven by the fellows themselves.
As program director, I am committed to providing a work environment that is positive, healthy, rigorous, and stimulating. Our trainees grow into outstanding clinicians and leaders.
The fellows also carry teaching responsibilities within the residency program in the surgical suite, hospital floor, and ambulatory setting. Fellows are encouraged to apply and obtain academic appointments with Georgetown University School of Medicine.
For its unique characteristics, outstanding training sites, and the multiple attractions associated with the Washington, D.C., region, our program is ideal for advanced training.
I sincerely appreciate your interest. If I can be of any assistance in your fellowship selection process, please feel free to contact us.
