Amanda Joy, MS, NRP, PA-C, CAQ-EM
Amanda Joy is a Physician Assistant and is the Associate Medical Director for MedStar Health Urgent Care and an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant for MedStar Emergency Physicians (MEP). Amanda graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Services in 2000. She worked as a Nationally registered paramedic while starting Physician Assistant School at Towson University, graduating in 2003 with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

After completing PA School Amanda worked in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mercy Medical Center before transitioning into an emergency medicine role with MEP in early 2005. Amanda has continued her career with MEP over the last 19 years, working at several sites but mainly at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.

Amanda worked as Adjunct Faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County Essex Campus Paramedic program and has had a long-standing passion for both pre-hospital and physician assistant education. She transitioned into the Liaison and Adjunct Faculty for the Towson University PA Program’s Emergency Medicine Lecture Series which she led for 7 years. Because of her passion for education and MEP’s recognition of the need for post-graduate training for PAs in Emergency Medicine, she worked with other leaders to build a post-graduate training program that has successfully trained over 100 graduates to date and was named the Lead PA for Education and Training at MEP in 2009. In April 2023, due to increasing responsibilities in Urgent Care she transitioned her role to Brooke Redmer, PA-C who continues this successful program to date.

In 2019 Amanda was asked to transition a portion of her role to help build MedStar Health’s Urgent Care network and provider team. She has transitioned from Lead PA to Senior Director of Advanced Practice before being named Associate Medical Director in 2023. Amanda continues to foster educational opportunities for providers through educational modules, videos and simulation training.

Amanda completed the MEP LEAD Program’s inaugural class. She serves on multiple committees including the UC Clinical Practice Council, UC Peer Review Committee, MMG Governance Council, Chair of the Workforce and Revenue committee and establishing member of the MedStar Health Advanced Practice Council.

Amanda was named the 2022 POCN Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant of the Year and has several publications.
