Meet our faculty

Jasmeet Bhogal

Jasmeet Singh Bhogal, MD, MBA, FCUCM

Jasmeet Bhogal is the Medical Director for MedStar Health Urgent Care and has been serving in this role since October 2023. A board-certified Family Physician, he completed his bachelor's in medicine and bachelor's in surgery (M.B.B.S) from Christian Medical College, Punjab, India. After completing medical school, he moved to the United States and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Family Medicine Program at Capital Health System in Trenton, New Jersey. He then completed a one-year Urgent Care Fellowship at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio.

Additionally, Dr. Bhogal completed his MBA at the Fox School of Business at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Bhogal has previously served as the President of the College of Urgent Care Medicine (CUCM). In his role, he was responsible for strategic planning of the College’s activities that support its clinician members in their practice of urgent care medicine.

Jasmeet has previously served as the Medical Director for Urgent Care at Lancaster General Health System in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Medical Director for Virtua Health System Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine network in South Jersey. In these roles, he developed the urgent care network for both organizations and helped them expand into multi-site urgent care networks.

Jasmeet has also served as the Urgent Care Association National Fellowship Director for Urgent Care Fellowships. He has also authored the chapter on Laceration Repair and Wound Management in the Textbook of Urgent Care Medicine. He has presented clinical topics on several occasions at the UCA conference and has authored articles in the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine (JUCM).

Amanda Joy

Amanda Joy, MS, NRP, PA-C, CAQ-EM

Amanda Joy is a Physician Assistant and is the Associate Medical Director for MedStar Health Urgent Care and an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant for MedStar Emergency Physicians (MEP). Amanda graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Services in 2000. She worked as a Nationally registered paramedic while starting Physician Assistant School at Towson University, graduating in 2003 with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

After completing PA School Amanda worked in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mercy Medical Center before transitioning into an emergency medicine role with MEP in early 2005. Amanda has continued her career with MEP over the last 19 years, working at several sites but mainly at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.

Amanda worked as Adjunct Faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County Essex Campus Paramedic program and has had a long-standing passion for both pre-hospital and physician assistant education. She transitioned into the Liaison and Adjunct Faculty for the Towson University PA Program’s Emergency Medicine Lecture Series which she led for 7 years. Because of her passion for education and MEP’s recognition of the need for post-graduate training for PAs in Emergency Medicine, she worked with other leaders to build a post-graduate training program that has successfully trained over 100 graduates to date and was named the Lead PA for Education and Training at MEP in 2009. In April 2023, due to increasing responsibilities in Urgent Care she transitioned her role to Brooke Redmer, PA-C who continues this successful program to date.

In 2019 Amanda was asked to transition a portion of her role to help build MedStar Health’s Urgent Care network and provider team. She has transitioned from Lead PA to Senior Director of Advanced Practice before being named Associate Medical Director in 2023. Amanda continues to foster educational opportunities for providers through educational modules, videos and simulation training.

Amanda completed the MEP LEAD Program’s inaugural class. She serves on multiple committees including the UC Clinical Practice Council, UC Peer Review Committee, MMG Governance Council, Chair of the Workforce and Revenue committee and establishing member of the MedStar Health Advanced Practice Council.

Amanda was named the 2022 POCN Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant of the Year and has several publications.
Chris Magee

Jerald Chris Magee, MPAS, PA-C

Jerald “Chris” Magee is the Program Director for the MHUC APP Urgent Care (UC) Fellowship Program and has been in that role since October 2023. Chris graduated from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP)/University of Nebraska Medical School in May 2000. Chris completed his master’s degree in PA Studies with a minor in Emergency Medicine in 2004. He also completed a one-year Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Andrews Air Force Base in 2004.

After serving a tour in Iraq with the U.S. Air Force in 2005, Chris retired from the Air Force in 2007 as a Captain. Chris then went to work at Southern Maryland Hospital in the emergency department. In 2015, Chris became a traveler for U.S. Acute Care Solutions (formerly MEP) working at multiple EDs in Maryland and Connecticut. He joined MedStar in October 2020 and was promoted to Southern Maryland Region Lead APP in April 2021. He completed the MedStar Emergency Physicians (MEP) Lead Program in 2023 and still works PRN for MEP at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Chris has taught multiple first aid classes since he was a teen in the Boy Scouts. He was one of the first AED instructors for the Air Force at Keesler AFB, MS in 1995. In early 2022, he started working on the development of the Urgent Care APP Fellowship with a great team of other UC Providers. Our first cohort began in January 2023, and Chris has been working with our team to continually improve the program since its inception.
Jon Gonella

Jon Gonella, PA-C

Jon Gonella is the Assistant Program director for Medstar’s APP Urgent Care Fellowship Program and Lead APP for the Western Region of Medstar Health’s Urgent Care.
Jon graduated from Washington College with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1987 and graduated from MCP Hahnemann Physician Assistant school in 2000. Before PA school, Jon worked as a Paramedic in Montgomery County, MD and was a flight medic with MedStar.

After completing PA School, Jon began work as a PA in the Emergency Room at Suburban Hospital. After 10 years in the Emergency Room, Jon transitioned to a leadership role with an urgent care company which was later acquired by Medstar and now serves in his current position.

While working in Urgent Care prior to Medstar, Jon helped to develop one of the first Urgent Care fellowships in the country for APP’s. This experience helped with the development of Medstar’s Urgent Care APP Fellowship program.

Jon enjoys teaching and mentoring new APP graduates. This is a way to give back to the profession that has brought him so much joy and satisfaction.

Jon completed the MEP LEAD Program in 2023.

Lauren Ruehle

Lauren Ruehle, FNP-C

Lauren Ruehle is a dedicated Nurse Practitioner specializing in urgent and primary care services at MedStar Urgent Care clinics. Her journey in healthcare began at West Virginia University, where she earned dual bachelor's degrees in exercise physiology and nursing.

With a passion for patient care, she started her career as an inpatient pediatric nurse, spending nearly six years at the bedside providing compassionate and high-quality care. During this time, she took on various roles, including mentoring nursing students, training new hires, and serving as a charge nurse, honing her leadership and clinical skills.

Driven by a desire for greater autonomy and impact, she pursued further education at West Virginia University to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Since then, she has had the privilege of working in both Urgent Care and Primary Care settings, where she’s been able to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives.

Over the past three years as part of the MedStar team, she’s embraced opportunities to expand her role beyond clinical practice. Her passion for teaching has led to a dynamic career path, where she now mentors and trains members of the fellowship program while continuing to provide exceptional patient care. She takes pride in helping nurse practitioner students and fellows develop their skills and has been fortunate to receive positive feedback on her approach to care and mentorship.

In addition to her clinical and educational responsibilities, Lauren is actively involved in various committees at MedStar, contributing to the advancement of healthcare practices and patient outcomes.

She is excited to continue growing and making a difference in healthcare, leveraging her expertise and passion to provide the highest level of care possible.
