Recreation Therapy Program

MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital offers internships to Recreation Therapy students who are looking for clinical experience in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. Students must have excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills. Internships typically last 12-15 weeks, depending on the requirements of the individual student's college or university. Students are a vital part of our treatment team and engage in all parts of the treatment process, including assessments, formulating goals, completing treatment plans, reporting in team and family conferences, and discharge planning. Students also have the opportunity to lead individual and group activities, help patients find community resources for post discharge, assist patients with reintegration into the community, and collaborate with other clinical disciplines at the hospital.

As part of a Paralympic Sports Program, students are expected to participate in our weekly adaptive sports programs, which include wheelchair basketball, quad rugby, wheelchair tennis, sled hockey, fitness, and cycling.
