MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital Social Work Program

MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC, offers inpatient rehabilitation for a full range of medically complex neurological and orthopedic injuries and conditions. The Acute Rehabilitation Social Work Internship provides hands-on experience for students pursuing a degree in social work, particularly those interested in healthcare settings. This role is designed to allow interns to apply social work principles in an acute rehabilitation environment, where patients are recovering from serious injuries, surgeries, or illnesses.

As a social work intern, students will work closely with a licensed social worker on the case management team to assist in coordinating and delivering services to patients undergoing rehabilitation. This internship offers the opportunity to develop clinical and case management skills by interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Interns will learn to assess patient needs, create treatment plans, and facilitate smooth transitions from the hospital to home or another care setting. Senior BSW undergraduates and MSW students are welcome to apply for field placement.
